Greetings! 'Grace and peace to you from our God and Father and the Lord Jesus Christ...' Without God's grace, it would be impossible to experience his peace, thus the sequence of these words!
I want to welcome all of you to the first digest of 'The Sunday School Teacher's Network'. (I believe this is the first of its kind.) I have had a great response to the initial sign up period, and I'm very excited about the potential for this network! The success or failure of it rests on all of us. Unless we all share our questions, thoughts and opinions, there will be nothing for me to moderate and send out. So, to get a discussion going, I thought I would ask you the following:
1) "Is there one thing that you do each Sunday, or in a midweek class, that you consider very important and successful?"
2) Is there anything that you do to recruit more children/youth/adults to your class?
Looking forward to hearing from all of you,
Blessings,
Sarah Keith, your moderator @

Have you seen any patterns on the web for Jesus dolls to sew? Also
looking for related items like Noah's ark, banners, etc to sew for Sunday school, kids crafts. I was wondering where churches got their patterns for the banners made to hang on the walls! There are cutesy Mary and Joseph doll patterns out, for instance, in such magazines as Country Marketplace at Christmas time.
However, I am looking for a year-round source. I want to make a Jesus doll (more serious type) for my college son, who is a Religion major. I have
also seen Noah's ark in fabric, as opposed to wood, with all the animals--good for Sunday school, also looking for such ideas in fabric
appliqué pictures.
Thanks! Kay

I am a new Sunday School teacher for ages 5-9. Our church is small and I can have as few as 5 or as many as 17. Usually 8 or so. I am not very computer literate, this is my first e-mail to someone I don't know. I am 40 and I have homeschooled my 3 children for 14 years, so I'm pretty
equipped for teaching. I'm so glad the kids actually like me a lot; their previous teacher was very young with no children and did very little real teaching or crafting. Mostly babysitting. I would love to get ideas for multiple ages. It is very hard to satisfy everybody each Sunday. I do have two ideas to share. I found a peanut butter maker machine for only $10 a salvage type store. The kids love to watch it make peanut butter and then eat it with crackers, of course. But it was a good lesson on the parable of the sower; we used peanuts as the crop sowed. We also learned about a godly
scientist, George Washington Carver. Also, starting in Fall I made a huge tree out of that foamy wall board for building houses. Our church makes all kinds of props from that stuff. It is very light and easy to cut into shapes. We make great animals for a Noah's Ark drama. You can paint it any color. Anyway, I painted a tree and each week the kids memorized a bible verse for our lesson. The following week, if they could repeat the verse, they got to put a colored leaf or acorn on the tree. They really loved the acorns! When they got 3, they got to place a pumpkin under the tree with their name on it. When they got 3 pumpkins, they
received a prize from the "happy bag". Hope these are helpful. Shirley
(The idea of earning a leaf and cashing them in for a pumpkin, and eventually for a prize is a great idea. Other 'themes' could be used. Let's see what ideas everyone else has!

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." Mark 10:14-16
