"Halloween, Are You For Real?"
Halloween is an odd mixture of creepy creatures, costume parties, and
harvest festivals. It is also a confusing time for those hesitant to
celebrate a holiday that traces its roots to pagan practices and beliefs.
"Halloween, Are You For Real?" teaches a Christian view of Halloween by
presenting it as a holiday on which to celebrate God's victory over evil
and evil spirits. Purchase it in our bookstore-holiday section at:
http://www.christiancrafters.com/bookstore_holidays.html

Re. Newsletter #100
Why not dress up as a Bible character germain to your
current story (or make up a Bible person to relate the
story 3rd person) or you could have someone else dress
as Bible character for an interview or to tell his/her story.
I have done this as Abraham's wife, relating the story of
my husband taking our precious long-awaited son to the
moutain for sacrifice, I even got caught up in it as well
as the children, we were all crying - and K-Gr.3 kids
actually understood the idea of sacrifice and obedience
to God.
Another thing I've done with children is to prepare a Bible
times meal (grapes, pita bread, cheese cubes, raisins,
nuts, etc) and sit on the floor on a blanket or mat and tell
the story of one of the dinners Jesus attended and that
we children were allowed to watch. They loved that one.
Puppets - could take an "attitude" and you could talk with
it about what God says.
Could use gummy fish/or Goldfish crackers to tell the story
of feeding the 5000 men.
Hope this helps. Games with big squares or even masking
tape on the floor - could be used with the Exodus and
Wandering in Desert stories. Hope this get's some ideas
flowing - I have more - so could contact me at NFlohr5948@verizon.net
(I've taught kids for over 25 years
in many various capacities.

4) Apple Lesson
I have a saying that goes like this: "Anyone can count the seeds in an
apple, but only God can count the apples in a seed."
It is not a devotional but maybe it will help to inspire one.

5) Beaded cross?
Hi
I was looking for a bead craft where you make a cross with different
colored beads and each color represents something spiritual. Can anyone
give me the directions for this cross? My thanks!

7) Choir Appreciation Banquet?
I am organizing a Choir Appreciation Dinner at my church. The food
portion of the banquest is under control but I need Ideas on inexpensive
favors to give to everyone and entertainment. We usually have a gift
exchange of some sort so any ideas on that would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has any ideas on fun Music related games or skits we could
do that would great. Our theme is going to be: "Jesus, the reason we
sing". If you know of anything that would go along with that theme send
it my way. Thanks in advance.

8) Horse and Rider Song
This message is in response to the inquiry about the Horse and Rider Song,
if you check out the following web site, I think you will find what you
are looking for. However, I am not too familiar with the song itself, so
hopefully there are not multiple songs with the same name.

9) Bored
There is so many activities that you can do in a Sunday school class room
to keep the children and yourself from getting too bored of a routine. One
of the things I do is rotate story time; one week I might tell the story
using flannel grams, the next we might watch a video clip and then discuss
it, the next week there might be a skit or a play along activity, the
story might be told through a song another week, or the children might act
it out still another. I have found that keeping the basic order of things
in the classroom helps keep young children feeling safe in the classroom,
and that varying those activities helps cut back on the boredom. Some
weeks they have a simple craft that requires drawing and imagination,
other weeks it's painting, or building. There are a lot of really good
curriculum's out there, that give you a large selection of ideas for each
week. It's important to remember when using any curriculum that you are
not forced to stick with it, use your own talents, your own imagination,
and add and subtract activities that will make your class special to not
only the children but also to yourself. Hope this is helpful! Love in
Christ, Sarah in California

10) Secret Santa or Secret Admirer
Hello, this message is in response to the person asking about how to
carrying out a secret Santa or secret admirer type program. There are two
basic ways to go about this at least as far as I can tell. The first way
is choosing to keep the kids a secret, as to which child is sending gifts
and cards to whom. To go about this, you will need to compile a list of
children interested in such a program, as well as a list of receiptant
address'. Let each child make one thing and a card, or purchase a small
item, or however you desire to go about this. Address enough padded
envelopes large enough to support the item(s). Randomly insert what the
kids made or bought into the envelopes without reading the names on the
envelopes. The other way to go about it, which is actually my personal
preferred way, is to have the children not remain secret at all...in fact,
many of the children will form lasting friendships with the people they
are writing too. To go about this compile a list of address' of people to
participate with this program, and a list of interested children,
randomly distribute each child a name, and let them write an introduction
about themselves. Then they can send personalized cards, hand made or
store bought gifts, birthday cards, and more to their special friend. The
adults participating in the program will love forming a special bond
through the mail with these children, and many of them who are able will
even write back. If you are worried about privacy concerns, make sure you
only use the church's address, and the children's first names in all
correspondences. Hope this helps! Love in Christ, Sarah in California

11) Holyword VBS
This message is in response to the person seeking the Holyword VBS kit,
try contacting Groups Publishing directly at: info@grouppublishing.com.
Explaining your situation to them and your need for the kit, they may have
one somewhere they can ship you at a discounted price. In particularly,
they often have curriculum showings where they introduce churches to a
new curriculum by going through each piece in the kit one by one. They
often hold onto these kits later or sell them at discounted prices. You
may also want to try posting a message on some of the VBS message boards
on the Internet. In particularly, try posting a message to the one similar
to your posting on SSTN on the Groups Publishing Message Board. Hope this
information is helpful, and good luck in your search! Love in Christ,
Sarah in California

12) Rudolph Analogy
Hello, this is in response to the person who was looking for the Rudolph
Analogy. I am not sure if this is what you are looking for or not, but
even if it isn't, I am sure that it will help others, it is the song
Rudolph the red nosed Christian which can also be used as a lesson. It can
be found at http://pages.cthome.net/agapebeacon/rudolph.htm. It's all
about a Christian who doesn't fit in until Jesus asks him to guide the
flock. Hope this helps! Love in Christ, Sarah in California
