1) Disabled Adults
> Does anyone know where she could get lesson material? Preschool material isn't
> working. Can anyone help. Thanks, Deb >>
Hi Deb,
I organized a prayer service at the state school here in Richmond Texas. We have a prayer service on Monday evenings for 45 minutes and then on Tuesday I visit the more profound individuals in the homes. Some Suggestions We have designated a special area which we call our special place. After all when you invite someone to your home, we make them welcome and offer them the best we have in places to sit and be with them. We start out with a procession, there are several articles that we bring to our special place.
1. a plaque, I took a piece of cardboard and covered it with felt. Took small 1inch blocks and velcroed them to the felt, Jesus is our Friend. Then I framed this.
I explain to them that this tells others that they are also friends of Jesus.
2. A bouquet of flowers, because flowers are a sign of love, and we bring flowers to those we love.
3. The bible, this is the word of God. ( held high so all can see )
4. If you feel safe and comfortable a lighted vigil candle, enclosed inside another glass vase. Because Jesus is the light of the world.
I also have an old film stripe projector, and will pick one scene ie Jesus loves the Children , and show just a picture of Jesus with children, or Jesus at the Last Supper for them to focus on. I think the most important thing to remember is that people learn and grasp ideas in different ways. The senses play such an important part in working with the disabled. I think it is important in no matter how your service is organized, is that there is a time for song, a quiet time for private prayer. In our service I hold a small crucifix and tell them that Jesus here for each one of us. And that they may hold the cross and tell Jesus what ever is in their hearts. Use simple ideas such as what made you laugh today, who do you want Jesus to watch over etc.... With soft background music, we pass the cross from person to person. This was the most awesome experience of my life. Each person no matter if I can understand them or not shows their love. However I would wait until you felt they understoood there purpose for coming to Sunday School Children's Page with Christians puzzles, games and coloring pages Crafts, Coloring
Pages, Puzzles and Puppets Hope this helps, sorry if I got carried away, I just happen to love what I am doing. Nancy

2) Giving Banks
We did the giving banks you are referring to with small styrofoam fast food containers which you can buy at one of the supply places that carry them. They are very cheap and since they are meant to stack, it worked very nicely. Hope this helps!

3) Teacher's Appreciation
In response to request for teachers' appreciation: We have found that giving door prizes of teaching materials is very well received. We give shape notepads, markers, stickers, bordette, idea books, bulletin board sets, etc. Teachers spend a lot of their own money on supplies, and they really appreciate getting something useful! You can taylor the prizes to the amount of money you have available, and you can actually give everyone something. You might even give coupons for a decorated bulletin board, a Sunday off, or similar no-cost prizes.

4) Giving Banks
> We wanted to make "Giving Banks" and use 3 small cylinder containers
> wrapped together"
Sarah,
Maybe you could use plastic 20 ounce coke bottles (soda). They even have different colors bottles here in Texas. (Sprite is green, RC is blue, etc.) I think it would be good if the kids could see thru them anyway, because they always get excited when they can see how much money is in them. And, the best part of this is that most people drink cokes (sodas) and you shouldn't have any problem getting 120 fairly easy. Hope this helps. Carolyn from Texas

5) Christian pumpkin carvings?
With fall here, we've got pumpkins everywhere. Does anyone have any ideas or patterns for pumpkin carvings which are Christian based? For younger kids a cross is a simple task, but for the older kids I was thinking of Veggie Tales characters or something, but I can't find patterns. Any advice? Kelly-Winnipeg, Canada

6) Autumn Incentive Project
> I went out in the woods and cut down a 5 foot tree. I took all the leaves off >
This was such a great idea for Fall! I plan to pass it on to all the Sunday School teachers. I am so pleased and grateful for all the wonderful ideas that can be used in the Youth Ministry. Love in Christ.............Miss Heather

7) Giving Craft
>Does anyone have an idea for a craft that would emphasize "The Gift of
>Giving". We wanted to make "Giving Banks" and use 3 small cylinder containers
You can use three toilet paper rolls, or three paper towel holder rolls, or three rolls from wrapping paper rolls. This last one has the benefit of being more sturdy than the first two, bit the down side is that would have to be cut because they are long. Glue them together with a glue like Elmer's. Elmer's seems to work better than hot glue. It seems to bond better with the paper and gives it more stability. Besides, if you make these in Sunday school, you don't want to risk a child being burned by the hot glue. If you don't want to use any of the three items mentioned above, put signs up around the church or in your weekly newsletter asking for your congregation to save the Pringles and Crystal light containers. Place receptacle boxes/bags or baskets around the Church for people to put them in. Hope this helps.

8) Glue
> Some time ago someone wrote in saying they used VHS tape boxes...what kind of >glue did they use to apply the vinyl to the plastic boxes? Nothing that I have tried has >worked. Karen- Klpsynderr@aol.com
Hi Karen:
We used a hot glue gun.
God bless, Joni
