1) New Years - New Beginnings
The new year holds new possibilities, and new beginnings. Use the theme of "new" things. The Bible says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthians 5:17) Apart from Christ we are dead in our sins. In Christ we have new life! Use the New Life butterfly crafts and food crafts to reinforce the lesson of New Life & New Beginnings. (AND...in the Bookstore there is a book entitled, "Before & After Christmas Activities". You can find it in the Holidays & Holy Days section.)

If ya really want to be simple, you can stick an ornament hook in the cellophane wrapper of a candy cane, and thus be able to eat it! (might be good for young ones! And the hook can have a small red bow attached.

3) 3-5 Children's Church

We have about 30 minutes with our kids. We sing songs as a gathering time, we talk about the church season if its a new season. During Advent we light
a small advent wreath and talk about the candles and what they mean each week. We take up an offering, having them pass a plate, just like in big
church to prepare them for this aspect of worship. Then we have a story. Sometimes its a book, sometimes its an active story like from the book
DON'T JUST SIT THERE or HOORAY FOR CHILDREN'S CHURCH. Occasionally, we use a video. After the story, we have a short prayer. Then the children do some
type of simple craft related to the story. Sometimes its just coloring a picture. They also like to make posters for the room all together. Good

4) 3-5 Children's Church

Tami.. My name is Torri and i've been working with 3-5 year olds for 3 years now in Sunday School. Don't get to worried.. its very simple. after the praise take them up for a short bible Story... a good book to use .. WWJD for Toddlers.. its animated wonderfully and easy to understand. then a small craft to tie up and into the lesson. Perhaps study the creation of the earth... 6 days.. one day for each
sunday. I've made butterflies out of coffee filters and pipe cleaners for when he created animals and we had animal crackers for snack. and if you still have time left over ... play a game with them. This Sunday Schools Network has helped me
imensly.

6) Candy Craft
Hot Glue two candy canes together to make a heart, keep them in the wrapper. Be sure to use the ones that have the red stripes, and the three little stripes. Attach a simple bow of narrow ribbon. To the bow attach a copy of the candy cane story (can be found on the internet--just copy off and make it the desired size. You may have to cut out part of the extra wording, some are very wordy, but keep the important message. You may want to check several sites to get the best message. If you have funds you can purchase little cards with the message at a Christian book store.) The heart also symbolizes love. These are good gifts to hand out to kids, use for children's time, attach to gift boxes. The are a good Christmas witness tool. If you are looking for a fund raiser, the are cheap to make, and I have sold some at a Craft Fair for $1. When adults looked at them I sold them, but when children looked at them, I gave them to them and asked they have their parents read them to them. 7) Special Theme for January
Hi Folks, In reply to Special Theme for January, I have been a Children's Pastor for mean years. January is a great time for Bible Olympics. The kids have cabin fever and parents can use all the help they can get to get the wiggles out of the children.
I use a great curriculum called Super Book Olympics from One Way Street
Ministries It is awesome and the kids love it. It is VERY bible based. As for January, over the years I find this is a time the visitors that have attended your Christmas Programs return again just to check out the church,

8) Olympics theme
To Wren: We did an Olympics theme for our 40 or so kids (k-5) in August. We rented a Park District building close by since we did not have the space at the church. We had four interviews with an olympic "athlete" using the themes of perseverance, listening to the coach, deciding if you really wanted to race, counting the cost. The interviews took up about the first 15 minutes of out time. Then each week we did different group projects. We divided the kids into different "countries" of the Kingdom of God, such as love, joy, holiness, worship, power, etc., using different attributes of God. The first week they made their banners, decorating them as a team. The second week we had them do "training" in order to be ready for the Kingdom of God. The third week we had
them do wacky relays . The Fourth week we reviewed. Our athlete had won the race. The kids received medals and we had closing ceremonies at the church in
which the teams brought up their banners, marching to the theme of the Olympics,
and velcroed them to a larger sheet. AT the end we lifted the banner so the
whole congregation could see it and the kids sang a closing worship song. We had
a team of six people do the whole thing. The banners needed the most prep work.
Also our athlete and coach needed to meet in order to do planning. It went very
well. I know this is last minute but I wish you God's blessing on your work.

9) 3-5 Children's Church
I teach 2nd and 3rd grade. Myself and our K-1st grade teacher both give "quiet seat" prizes to our classes for whoever is the most well behaved out of the bunch. At the beginning of class I go over what it takes to get the quiet seat prize. Like not talking without raising your hand and being called upon, staying in your seat, and you can add whatever you feel is necessary for your group. Then at the end of the class I pick the one that I felt was the best behaved out of the bunch to win the prize. It is not always easy, sometimes they are all good and then I will pick the most improved of the bunch. Although one Sunday no one won. They were really bummed out about that one. Every week my prize is different. It is usually candy. I know most mom's probably don't approve of it, but I have found it to be the most effective. Also sometimes I will go to the dollar store and pick up something that is not too gender related. At this age, any thing
