1) Creating t-shirts. What's the best paper, etc?
I wanted to communicate with some people who have experience creating
t-shirts with their printers, using iron-on transfer paper. I have an
Epson printer, and I saw a post in the archives that the Avery transfer
paper is no good, but I was wondering if anyone has used it since it now
has the label "new and improved longer lasting color"? If Avery is still
no good, has anyone used Epson brand transfer paper? It seems it's only
360dpi, and I've heard other papers are up to 720dpi. Should I use
Epson's transfer paper, or hp's, which i heard is very good? Please reply
via email to lunarbard@moonman.com if you have any input.

2) Pre-Confirmation class
at our church we don't use a "Sermon note" format, but instead a "Worship
Notes" format. This way the kids have to stay tuned in to the entire
worship service. We include questions like What was your favorite hymn we
sang today?, What color were the parchments?, Which Gospel was today's
taken from (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John)?, etc. Of course there is a
couple questions regarding the sermon, and how they can use what they
heard in their lives... Hope this helps a little! Kristan Keith,
Our Savior's in Eau Claire, WI

3) Hard to control class
This was how I handled my class. They made class rules and then we posted
them. We had a basket in the center of our table and each time someone
did something good, i.e., following a rule, I put their name in the
basket. At the end of the class, we drew a name and that child got to
take a gift from the gift box. The kids that were well behaved, had a
better chance of getting their name pulled. Positive reinforcement works
great. I did this with 3rd and 4th graders and now the 1st and 2nd grade
class is trying it. One of the their students read their rules before
each class. It helps if they make their own rules. It also makes class
fun.

4) "Hard to Control" class
One year we had a very hard to control group of boys. Everything the
teacher did was to no avail. So, we called the parents together and the
fathers rotated each week to help control the boys. Knowing that their
parents were each taking a turn was a big deterrent. It was successful and
the boys began to learn. It also saved a great teacher.

5) I feel like quitting
I hope I'm doing this right, this is the first time I've tried to reply.
Attitude really is everything! I would suggest that you spend at
least 30 minutes before each class in prayer. Remember, God has placed
you
in a position to teach His Word to these children. Sometimes you just
need to remember that when you are truly doing God's will YOU CAN NOT BE
DEFEATED!! YOU are in charge of this class. Children can sense this
attitude, and you'd be surprised at the difference it makes.

6) Game ideas
I hope that i am doing this right. anyway. i teach 1st and 2nd grade
sunday school and find that introducing a lesson once is not enough for
them to remember much. games games games is what seems to help my
students retain the information. we play a form of millionaire, jeopardy
and the oregon trail (this is a great computer game). i'm sure you can
guess and modify millionaire and jeopardy but i will send along the ideas
for the oregon trail. we call this the journey to the promised land.
Supplies: different colored construction paper, index cards
The construction paper is used to make a path around the room. each index
card will have a task to complete to move on to the next space or it may
be something that will make them go backwards (something like the game
candyland). Some examples: Name a ten commandment, recite the lord's
prayer, or answer questions. If it's a particularly hard task you may let
them go to the next square of a certain color. Examples of backwards
movement: the card informs the student that his camel died on the journey
and you lose a turn or go back to a square of a certain color. each child
picks cards and goes along the path until some one reaches the promised
land. all my students get prizes. If you win you pick 1st. I'm probably
not explaining this really well so if you have any questions please email
me at eaptravel@hotmail.com. Have fun. Many prayers,

7) ABC Christian Song?
Recently I have seen a Christian Version of the ABC song, and now cannot
seem to locate it. If anyone has a copy please share again. It goes
something like this: A is for Adam, B is for Bethlehem and so on. Thanks
in advance. Brenda

8) I would like to be an encouragement
Sometimes it seems that no matter how hard you work with your church, your
church family and your church classes, there is always someone to complain
about something you did or didn't do. The comments come like "the kids
are too noisy" but the ones who are complaining never stop by your room
and say "may I help you". It is difficult sometimes to control children's
behavior especially when there are 20-25 kids wired with energy and only 1
teacher. Sometimes I get tired and I too want to give up. But then I
think what if everyone gave up when times got tough. Jesus didn't. He is
my inspiration and my strength when troubled times come and they will come
I look toward Him. Every time I get discouraged I remind myself of the
persecution that My Savior had to endure simply because He loves me. He
will give us the strength to spread his work. We must encourage each
other to stay strong as we serve Jesus. Look around in your church this
Sunday and catch somebody doing something right and bring it too their
attention

9) Games/activities/crafts for 2 and 3 year olds?
I would really appreciate some input on games/activities/crafts for 2 and
3 year olds. Games we've played are tossing games and pin the blank on
the blank (varying per lesson). Crafts have been limited to paper
crafts...drawing, coloring, gluing, etc. The crafts should preferably be
easy to prep for 12 or more kids and low cost! Thank you in advance for
your input. Christina Willett - Little Lamb Leader - Santa Maria First
Church of the Nazarene

10) For Nina/Salvation Army Program
For Nina and her out reach program at the salvation army, We have some
curriculum that we could share with your cause, and I have many ideas and
resources to get information for little or no cost, we are a very small
church and I have had to become resourceful to keep my little ones
interested. You may contact me any time.
Dear Sakeith, you are welcome to give her my email address, any way that
we can help the younger generation to stay on track, lets do it! In

11) Thanks and a question
I appreciate so much the service you offer with your newsletters. In
September another grandmother and I took on the challenge of having a
Children's Church each Sunday so that kids K through 3 do not have to
sit through the entire worship service. We leave with them after about
20 minutes so we then have 40 minutes of activity time with them. We've
found that adapting the Hands-On curriculum for grades K-2 has worked
very well for us.
I've noticed a number of submissions where the writers talk of offering
money, small gifts, "rewards" to encourage the children to "learn and
behave". I am bothered by this. Why should we not simply stress that
out of respect for the greatness of God, proper behavior is expected?
Yes - we' ve had our share of frustrations with children who want to
wiggle and jiggle and make irrelevant comments. Yes - we generally have
more boys than girls. Yes - we deal with children with special needs.
Through it all, though, we have not had to resort to bribery. I'd like
to suggest that giving out prizes in order to get children to behave may
not really be a lesson that we want children to learn.

12) Feels like quitting
To the one who feels like quitting, I tried this and it seemed to work
well. I numbered every chair, at the beginning of class I had a child
pull a number from a basket, nobody looked at the number, not even myself.
At the end of the class we revealed what number had been pulled, if the
person sitting in that chair had followed the rules of the class then they
got to pick a prize from my goody box. (just cheap stuff, even some candy
bars,) then I usually gave the rest of the class a sticker. I did find
what helped the most was to be completely prepared, and keep the class
structured. We stuck to a routine as much as possible every week. This
particular class had some real behavior problems, in fact I could not get
anyone to teach them when they moved up to Jr. high, and now high school,
and so I am teaching them again, but it has been better now that they are
older.
