1) Pictures of Children Playing?
Hello, I am looking for a website where I can find pictures of children at
play, with animals, with friends ect. I want pictures not cartoon type of
pictures. I want to print them and add a fruit of the spirit to each
picture and put them up on the bulletin board in Sunday School.

3) 10 commandments lessons
In response to the 10 commandments lessons, how about teaching them in a
very simple format. Our Children's pastor has taught all our kids this!
Using the fingers hold up one- say "1 God",
Hold out two fingers sideways like scissors cutting- say "Don't make
idols",
Hold up 3 fingers making the letter w- say "watch your words",
Four fingers straight up marching- say"go to church",
five fingers, one hand make a salute, say "honor your mother & father",
6 fingers, one pointer pointing a five, like a gun, "Don't kill",
2 fingers on one hand are separated from 5 fingers- "don't commit
adultery"
hold up 8- "Don't steal",
hold up 9-"don't lie,
wiggle like greedy fingers all 10- "Don't covet"
My grandson could say this holding up the fingers as reminders at 3 years
old, now at six he can repeat them quickly without the finger reminders.
Great teaching fun, enjoy!

4) Teens during worship service.
Have a Youth Sunday. They can participate in being greeters, bell ringer,
collecting offering and a reader for the 1st & 2nd readings. And if they
like to sing, have them sing a song. Or get a Bell Choir Started for
them.

5) Equipping Teachers

Deon, I wish I could remember who wrote or came up with this but our
Sunday School teachers did a half day seminar on the Learning Styles of
Children. Children all learn in different ways. Some are cognitive while
others are artistic...etc. Our presenters had us go to different rooms
with each of the learning styles in each room. We had to try to complete
the task in a timed manner. Then we came back together and talked about
which was easier, hardest for us to complete. Then they talked about the 5
(I believe that is the number) Learning Styles. It really helped us to
realize that not all students learn the same way...and to explore
different teaching styles in order that we could reach all our students.
The results were amazing once used in the classroom! Good luck!

6) Lesson on Humility, Pride?
Hi, my name is Frances and I'm from India. I belong to a group called
Couples for Christ, in Mumbai, India and we are a part of the Catholic
church. I really appreciate the material from your website and since a
friend and I teach kids from the age of 4 to 12 (kids for christ) i have
used some of your material and have found it extremely useful for my
lessons. the kids loved buggie for Jesus especially. Do you have any
suggestions for a game and craft idea for a lesson on Humility or Pride.

--from SSTN: Thank you, Frances! 1 Corinthians 13 is a good starting
point. I have often thought it would be a good idea to make and decorate
small pillows with the phrase, "Love is not puffed up" written on them. (1
Corinthians 13:4, translation from the King James version.) Off the top of
my head for a game: it could involve a race of blowing up balloons. A
balloon "puffed" too much will pop. The balloon that is blown the largest

7) The Road to Follow...Snakes and Ladders game
I thought of a suggestion for the query mentioned -- road to follow: One
could build a snakes and ladder game at the session where the kids could
make the snakes and ladders and paint them and then of course stick them
around the board and finally play the game. Jesus is the One at the finish
line, and each ladder can stand of various things that either bring us
closer to Jesus (the bible), the fruits of the spirit, good values, the
commandments, sacraments, etc.
While the snakes can be represented as roads that lead us away from God:
the sins: greed, jealously, lying, anger, diobedience to elders --
parents, teachers, God...
Hope it will be fun.

9) Intergenerational Materials?
Our church is interested in doing a family Bible study or a family VBS,
where parents and children learn and have fun together. I am not having
success finding materials. Some topics of interest are prayer, communion,
baptism, etc. I've found lots of things for children on such topics, but
need help incorporating the whole family.

11) You've Got A Friend Ideas
I have the last few years been putting together our own Bible school
materials from ideas and internet resources. This year I am working on a
week long program including bible stories, crafts and activities using the
theme "You've Got a Friend in Me" (from the song in Toy Story) I would
appreciate hearing any ideas readers would like to share!

12) Esther Ideas
Several years ago we started celebrating Purim --- the Jewish festival
remembering the story of Esther. Each year we have added things or
changed things but it is a highlight of the year. We encourage all the
girls to dress up as Esther and the boys as Mordecai. We have a time when
we ask all the girls to come up front and we do it by age and then
everyone claps and we give out little prizes. We do the same for the
boys. Not all boys or girls dress up but this reewards those that do.
Then we play some games --- after all it is a festival. We had some
ladies in the church make the Hamantashen cookies. We have divided up in
groups and each group is given a roll of toliet paper and they dress one
of their girls up as Esther. We did this one year and they dressed up the
girl that is in a wheelchair --- she was thrilled.
We tell the story of Esther and we cheer for Esther and Mordecai and boo
for Haman. Last year we gave out graham crackers, canned frosting and
lots of little candies. we let each group make a castle and they had a
blast --- then each group brought their creation up front and everyone
cheered. Then the best part of all we let each group eat their castle.
They really enjoyed this and the castles were consumed quickly ----------
they are ready to do it again. (Several years ago Chrildren's Ministry
magazine had a writeup on this and that is what gave me the idea. They
had a great skit that was funny --- it used props like hamburgers wrappers
from McDonalds for the feast and etc.
I think the kids have really learned the story of Esther and it has been a
activity that they look forward to. We also take up an offereing for the
building upkeep. That is somehting they would have done at that feast.
This year Purim is March 7 --- I usually celebrate it on the Sundya
closest to that date. We also celebrate Pasover with a Sedar snack the
week before Easter. I hope to add a couple more Jewish festivals to my
calendar this year.
