I am a Bible School teacher at the East Parish Street Church of Christ in
Sandusky, Ohio. I teach pre-school and kindergarden age students. To help
my students retain their lesson for our Sunday School review, I created a
game called "Popcorn". I have my students put their chairs in a circle to
resemble a "pan"; then they are allowed to shake and wiggle in their chairs
as I ask the review questions. The first student that has the answer to my
question "pops" up from the pan and says the answer. This method of review
has greatly increased class participation; and they try hard to remember the
lesson so they can "pop" up out of the "pan" and answer. Try it. It really
is fun! In His love

Greetings in Jesus' name. I am looking for simple crafts and fun games for our early June VBS. These should be universal for ages 5 through 12 years old. This would be very helpful as this is the first time we are attempting this without the help of a commercial program. Thank you so much!!!!

<< Joseph's Brothers Go to Egypt >>
I have a web site that has 4 lessons on Joseph. In one lesson, I have the kids make Egypt from a big piece of bulletin board paper, crayons, and old seed catalogues. I drew a river to represent the Nile on the paper for the kids to color. The kids cut out pictures of flowers etc.from the catalogues and glued them on. There are more details at my web site with an illustration of what Egypt looks like. In the one where Joseph's family moves to Egypt, I tied a relay race into the story where the kids did a relay helping the Joseph's family move to Egypt. You can check it out at my site, http://www.edupatterns.com. From the Home page go to the Free Bible lesson Page. From there go to Archives. The Joseph Lessons are Lessons 4 - 7. Blessings in your ministry to children. In Christ, Linda Lawler, Pittsburgh, PA

Seeing as Lent is starting - I was wondering who had any ideas for 3rd graders.
Anything at this point will be appreciated!

(From ChristianCrafters.Com- during our midweek program we had the children make paper prayer chains for each day of Lent. On each link they placed the name of someone to pray for. Between the links they placed a pretzel. Pretzels were originally made by monks to slake ones hunger during Lenten fasting, and shaped them to resemble crossed arms/hands in prayer. Pretzels were made with flour and water and no yeast because in the Bible yeast symbolizes sin.
(Important to read: 1Corinthians 5:6-8.)
During Lent we examine our hearts, and confess our sins to Jesus. This is something we should always be doing, but Lent is a time when we remember the pinnacle of our faith, the death of Christ in our behalf, and his subsequent resurrection.
The pretzel prayer chains are a way to have the children think about Lent and their personal preparation for Easter. The pretzels remind us of our need to rid the sin in our lives, and our need to repent, and turn to Jesus.
Blessings, Sarah Keith-your moderator.)
