3) Crafts for 1st-3rd grade

To Bridget in Bradyville, TN, I have been teaching children for xxx years
(too many to count) and have lots of craft ideas, but it's easier for me
to use US mail instead of this modern technology of
forwarding-attachments-etc....so if she is interested and will list
several topics, I'll be glad to send some ideas.  She can contact me via
email to get her mailing address.  I'm always happy to help someone who
loves working with children and teaching them about our Lord.
Sincerely,  Nita

4) Lord of the Rings

> Do you have a problem with middle-schoolers seeing
> the Lord of the Rings

My response is that no, I don't have a problem with
middle-schoolers seeing lord of the
rings.....dependant upon the child though.    If you
have a very sensitive child who is easily frightened
so they don't think about things anymore you may not
wish to have them view the movie.

But a thinking child of middle school age should be
able to watch Lord of the Rings without too much
difficulty and may learn something from it.

5) Crafts for 1-3 grade

>I was wondering if any one has any ideas for
>crafts in my SS class

Hi Bridget.  You need to be a little more specific in the subject.  You
can check the archives and put in a subject, or you can write in the
subject and I am sure many of us will have some ideas for you.  I teach
2nd/3rd and crafts are a very important part of the lesson.  Don't wait
until the last minute for ideas though.  You should submit your subject
about a month in advance so she can publish the question and then await
the answers.
God bless,
Joni

6) To the Valentine family

I will continue to pray for your family that God will give you the peace
and understanding for his will.  We too struggle as you, a friend of ours
has a 14 year old daughter named Lindsey Sanders, who struggles today with
cancer.   Although she has had several "good" days this week,  the new
treatments- most likely the last effort the doctor have to work with, have
not done the job they are hoping for.   You know better than anyone the
heartfelt agony and pain her parents, family, and little brother are going
through.  Take care and remember all the precious moments....

7) Lord Of The Rings and Middle Schoolers

This message is in response to the person wondering if The Lord Of The
Rings is appropriate to show to middle school students. While I have
personally not seen the Lord Of The Rings, or any part of the trilogy,
because that is not my style of film, I would suggest that you read the
book "Finding God In The Lord Of The Rings" by Kurt D. Bruner and Jim
Ware. ISBN 0842355715 and it's approximately 144 pages. I picked this book
up at the library, when a group of older children that I baby sit for got
really interested in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. While many people may
disagree with this recommendation, and even more criticized the author for
not even scratching the surface of the Lord Of The Rings justification
process, I feel that this book gave me a better understanding of
separating the imaginative world of the Lord Of The Rings from the reality
of a Christian based lifestyle. Even though I had not seen the movies or
read any of the Lord Of The Rings books, this book helped me relate to the
children the Christian values and how they related or did not relate to
the Lord Of The Rings. If you haven't got the time to read an entire book
on the subject, there is an article floating around on the Internet, in
newspapers, and in magazines titled : "The Differences Between Harry
Potter and Lord Of The Rings" by Dr. Tom Snyder which provides a great
deal of Christian insight into how to approach such a story or movie.
 Hope this message is helpful!
Love in Christ,
Sarah in California

8) Lord of the rings movies

>Do you have a problem with middle-schoolers seeing the Lord of the Rings
>movies? Why or why not?

Yes! I'll admidt, I have never seen the Lord of the Rings movies but I
started to read The Hobbit and I was quite disturbed by some of the things
in that book. That is mainly why I have not seen any of the movies. I have
heard of heads cut off and other inappropriate things in the "Rings"
movies. Unless a movie is rated PG or G and I have watched it and feel
totally comfortable with the movie, I will not show it at church. For a
PG-13 rating I think you need to send a take home note with the kids if
you did show it, or parts of the movie, at church so the parents are aware
of what was seen. If my child had seen Lord of the Rings at church, I
would have been very upset.

9) Lord of the Rings

Hi!

While I don't have a problem with middle schooler reading the Lord of the
Rings, I do have a problem with them seeing the movie.  It has alot of
violence, and while it is not very graphic, it is somewhat. I'm waiting
until my middle school son is older to let him see it - but he did get the
books for Christmas.
