Christmas play book:

Last year I found a Christmas play book that I thought was exceptional. It is called,
"Destination Bethlehem" by Steve Trott, published by Baker House. It has seven plays with suggestions on how to include different age groups. They are very flexible and require very little in the way of sets. We did one and it was very successful. We used the very small children as a Christmas choir to entertain during the scene changes. We also had a dinner theater. The kids that were uncomfortable with being on stage served as waiters. The plays are unusual and some are very funny, if you like comedy.

In Reply to Sunday School Promotion for Cindy:

Last August for Promotion Day, my co-teacher and I purchased little gifts for the children (we have 4 year-olds & approximately 40 students). We purchased things like "Jesus Loves You" pencils, "God Loves You" paperclips, Scripture or Happy Face stickers from our local christian bookstore, candy and plastic gift bags from the local dollar store. We gave everyone the samething in their bag along with a certificate (glued to colorful construction paper) that we made on the computer. The certificate said something like "Promotion Sunday 8/8/99", this certificate is awarded to you for being faithful and dedicated to Sunday School; both teacher's signed it, the church's name and childrens pastor's name was on it as well. For the boy & girl that new the most memory verses we gave them something extra like a christian puzzle or game or book. On promotion Sunday we sang a few songs, told them how much we loved them and encouraged them to keep coming to Sunday School and to take everything we had taught them to their next class. Then we escorted them to their new class and returned to welcome our new students. Also, we served something special like hotdogs for their snack

I hope this helps.

God Bless You.

Drama for Family Night

I am so excited about this web site! I wish I had known about it sooner! :0)
I am interested in a drama for our VBS Family Night. Does anyone have a
suggestion on a drama that illustrates families building their homes on a
rock instead of the sand? That is on my heart but need help with idea??
Thank you so much!
JOY!

Responding to: "Ideas for costumes? ... We are creating an underwater
>scene on a farm wagon. We need some ideas for costumes."

When I first read your request, I immediately thought of Moses and the
Children of Israel crossing the Red Sea. Particularly since there is a
scene in the movie, Prince of Egypt, where you can actually see a big
fish or whale moving around in the background while they crossed over.
And what are they pulling across? A wagon! Super effect! Costumes
could actually be attire from that era. (NOTE: bath robes, hand towels
on heads, etc.)

Soap Bible:

Materials:
Rectangular bar of soap, black felt, gold rickrack, 3-inch high praying hands seal, gold ribbon, straight pins.

Procedure:
Cover the soap with black felt. Pin the felt to the soap with straight pins.
Trim the front and back with gold rickrack, pinning rickrack to soap.
Pin gold ribbon around three edges to give the appearance of pages of a Bible.
Glue the praying hands seal to the front.

I found this in a craft book I have, this will be one of our crafts for our VBS this year.
