1) Books of the Bible - song?
Hello there!
I am trying to teach my students the books of the
Bible. I heard that there may be a song to help them
remember? I teach two different classes, one class
consists of adults and children, and the other class
consists of 7-11 year olds. The group of 7-11 year
olds is my actual Sunday school class. The other group
is a group that I do something with (like some short
object lesson) fifteen minutes before Sunday school
actually starts. The class with the adults are
learning the Old Testament books right now. And I am
teaching the 7-11 year olds the New Testament books.
Does anyone have any creative ideas as to how I can
teach such a diverse age group the books of the Bible?
A song, poem, activity, anything would help.
Eventually, I would like everyone to know all the
books from Genesis to Revelation.
Thank you in advance,
Janine, Saco, ME

2) Jungle Theme song?
Has anyone any new songs on the jungle theme for a VBS - preferably words
to a familiar tune?

--> Amazing Miracles of the Bible
God’s glory and love are revealed through the miracles he performed and
were fully realized when he came to earth in the form of a man to save
mankind. By studying the miracles of the Bible children will gain a better
understanding of God’s love and faithfulness and how he continues to be
loving and faithful in miraculous ways to his people today. Great for
rotation-type programs!

4) VBS Topics
>I am curious as to why many VBS curricula covers the birth and death of
>Christ. If students attend SS anytime, they attend Christmas and
Easter.
>I guess I am asking why VBS does not cover other, less know stories?
Have you checked out many VBS material to come to this conclusion? I have
taught VBS and did not use these topics. I have also compiled my own
curriculum as well. These are the most important topics to cover. Children
attend VBS that do not attend the local church. This is the message of
salvation for every chiild to hear over and over again. What better way
than to take this opportuinty to do this.

5) Show Me The Way?

with the theme- Show Me The Way...a plea to parents from their children
asking them to be there for them. ANy ideas of what we can do? My class is
age 3 to 6.
Thanks.

6) Plinko game?
I am in need of some help. We want to make a Plinko game board for a
school fundraiser. If you could provide a detailed set of instructions it
would be wonderful.

7) Wild & Wacky Bible Lesson?
I'm about to start this curriculum and have decorated our room
as suggested, like a workshop/messy den.
I'm trying to decide on some creative ways to keep attendance
or memory work, but have drawn a complete blank.
Any ideas for this type of atmosphere? It doesn't have to fit
specifically with the curriculum itself, just the theme.
Thanks for the help.

8) VBS Topics?
> I guess I am asking why VBS does not cover other, less know stories?
This message is in response to the message that was posted about why VBS
programs generally cover Jesus' life and/or birth and not some of the
other lesser known Bible stories. I think that every VBS program should
cover Jesus' death and/or Jesus' birth at least one day of the VBS
program. Here's why I feel that way. VBS is a community outreach for many
churches. Children from the entire community, and not just the children
who are the kids of church members, are invited to attend VBS. Some of
these children may never have stepped foot in the door of a church before,
whether they saw a flyer that looked interesting, or were invited by a
friend to come, something got them to attend VBS, and that's the starting
point. Some of these children may never step foot in a church ever again.
If you got a child in VBS who had never been to church before, and they
were hit by a car the day after VBS and died, would that child know about
Jesus death/birth and that they could be saved from the teachings in your
VBS? I realize that's an extreme example, but I think many times we think
we have to avoid the basics, because we assume regulars will be bored with
them, but I think we need to emphasize the basics, and that every Bible
story should be drawn into the big truths of the Bible that are so
important for children (and us as adults) to learn. That being said, that
does not mean that we should ignore the other stories in the Bible, I just
think with outreaches, such as VBS, that we need to remember the basics,
and not always focus on the lesser known stories, and remember the big
story and the big picture when choosing curriculum or creating your own
curriculum.
That being said, maybe you are looking at the wrong curriculum if you
think all of the VBS curriculum's focus on Jesus' life, death, or birth.
As someone who writes VBS curriculum for personal and shared use, based on
my own ideas, as well as existing ideas and curriculums (basically coming
up with ideas to make VBS more affordable so that EVERY church can afford
a VBS), I can tell you that not every VBS curriculum focuses on the birth
and death of Christ. For instance "A Heart for Missions" was a VBS theme
that's been floating around for awhile, that VBS focuses on the idea of
mission projects, and each day has a different story, those stories
include: the parable of the Good Samaritan, the boy who shared his lunch,
Naaman's servant helps, Miriam helps her brother Moses, and God calls
Moses. Of course all of those stories tie into larger themes, and they all
focus on Gods love without teaching about the birth and the death. Some of
the more popular themes, such as Bug Safari (a couple years old) focus on
other stories in the Bible such as Samuel anoints David, David defeats
Goliath, David and Jonathan are friends, Jesus is crucified and rises from
the dead, and Abigail makes peace. If you do not wish to teach the lesson
about Jesus' birth or death, perhaps you could have your kick off on the
first day, and have it less structured, or your wrap up on the last day,
with less structure and omit the "one day" that focuses on Jesus' death or
birth. Unfortunately, if you do that, I feel that the kids would really be
missing out on not learning about the death or birth of Jesus. .
Just my take on the matter.
Love in Christ,
Sarah in California
