1) Multiage?

Hi everyone,
I am having a hard time finding resources for multi age curriculum.
We have a very small church (17) and if we break up there is 1 child in my
class and 3 in the other. The rest are adults.
Any ideas?

2) Treasures of the Nile

This message is in response to the person who posted about the Treasures
Of The Nile VBS, I have a complete lesson plan (stories, memory verses,
games, crafts, snacks, etc) on the Treasures Of The Nile that I would be

3) Treasures of the Nile VBS
 
Sounds like fun! It would be very easy to make pyramids from old cardboard
boxes. If you want big ones, appliance stores usually have old
refrigerator, stove or washer/dryer boxes. Also, if you have anyone
available with artisitic talent, you can paint a camel on a big box, cut
him out and fix the bottom so he will stand up. if you make a slit in the
bottom of the camel, and slide in a rectangle of heavy cardboard, I think
it will stand up. Your cardboard the camel is painted on would have to be
very heavy and rigid if you want it to stand, though, unless you want to
fix a 2x4 to the back.
If you got the whole VBS program you pobably have the game CD, which I
think is great! You can get ideas from it and make your own headdresses,
jewelry, etc to either wear or display.
 
Big pottery jars would be a great prop. If you don't have any available
you could, again, draw some or even make some from modeling clay.
 
Since the Nile is a river, you could make a mini river by using blue
plastic table cloths or an old blue sheet laid on the floor. Did you know
you can make palm trees from newspapers? Just roll the newspapers up, pull
up the top layer and slice it up. You might have to practice a little. If
you want it the right colors you'll have to paint it. You could also cut
out flat palm trees from construction paper, or draw them on newsprint.
 
I don't know if you want to do anything with mummies, but toilet paper
makes perfect mummy wrapping.
 
Moses was placed in a basket on the Nile river. Perhaps a doll wrapped up
in a wicker laundry basket would make a good prop. You could cut green
construction paper to make bulrushes.
 
Dates and Figs would be appropriate foods for children to taste.
 
The Hebrew slaves were forced to make bricks, so bricks could also be a
prop, perhaps near a pyramid as if they were building materials.
 
Just read the Bible stories, play with the CD (if you have it) look at the
pictures in your materials and let your imagination run wild!

4) God Chasers Decor?

I am searching for ideas on decorating our Children's Church. We will be
using "The God Chasers" curriculum starting this fall. Any wonderful ideas
would be greatly appreciated.

God’s glory and love are revealed through the miracles he performed and
were fully realized when he came to earth in the form of a man to save

5) Teaching Autistic children

i'd like to first say I love your newsletter. Thanks for all the great
ideas and resourses. I am currently the volunteer children's director at
my very small church. My son who is 7 has not been diagnosed with autism,
but that is what myself and his teacher are leaning towards. My problem is
I can handle him in class okay, not great, but okay. Some of the other
volunteer teachers don't do so well. Not by any fault of their own. I
tried taking him to church camp this summer(possibly a mistake on my part)
and it was a disaster. His moods and personality changes like the
weather.(I'm from Oklahoma) so, I don't know how to help his teachers.
Also, my older son invites friends to church all the time. My 7 year old's
friends are the children in his "special ed. class" and I'm not sure the
other teachers are up for this challange. But, they need church too. I
feel like my son and his friends are missing out on so much. Any advice
would be appreciated so much. I love God and I love these children. I want
to help them know Him. Please help. Thanks.

6) Passover Seder for children

I did a Seder for children in Grades 1-6
and used Childcraft for a resource....used for both church and Girl
Scouts.
All I remember (without looking it up) was chopped apples and cinnamon
to remember brick building (mortar), there was horseradish for bitterness
(?) and parsley dipped in salt for the tears of the folks in slavery....a
bone from a lamb (I used one from a beef roast, as I had no other)....hope
this gets you started.....your Pastor or a local synagogue may also
provide resources.....Keep on providing a strong Bible Base/Background as you
teach His Children, especially from Old Testament resources.....

7) Children In Worship

Hi,
I am a little concerened by the recent mentions of giving children
colouring in pencils and games when they are in a worship service. This is
of concern to me fro a few reasons. Firstly how will children ever learn
to enter into worship and the service if they are allowed and seemingly
encouraged to play during this time by the church suppling them with toys?
The premise that children can't sit still for any period of time is als a
frustration for me - once a child enters preschool they are trained to sit
and listen for at least half an hour at a time and this incerases at the
time goes on. This isn't meant as a critiscim but as something for people
to talk about.

8) Children In Worship

Our Worship Service begins at 10:30, the children along with the teens
are with their parents until the singing part of worship and
announcements are over - around 11:15 . There is a short break at that
at that point, and We dismiss the kids and teens to SS.

How do you do this so that the teachers who teach are still able to
attend the sermon part of church?  Do you have 2 services?  Do you have
enough teachers so that they are able to be in church part of the time
to be spiritually replenished?

9) Happy Face Craft

On a sheet of paper write, "A happy heart makes the face cheerful." Proverbs 15:13. 
Below the verse draw a face with eyes, nose, ears and
hair. To the side of the drawing have a large smiley mouth. Have the child
color the face, cut out the smile and paste onto the face.

10) Create a flyer?

Our Sunday School would like to invite the children in our neighbourhood
to our Sunday School and want to do a fly to hand out.
 
I basically require and idea on how to actually construct the flyer (what
details should i include) to make it attractive and at the same time
exciting and get the word across.
 
Please can anyone help me!

12) Lord's Prayer in Candles?

I am looking for a lesson that teaches the lesson of the Lord's Prayer in
Candles. Can anyone tell me where to find it or can someone send me a copy

does anyone have any ideas for some Christmas Crafts? If so could you let

13) Balloon Lesson

This sounds like a lovely lesson, but please remember that balloon
releases are very dangerous for wildlife, particularly birds and fish, if
you live near water.  They eat them or get caught in the strings.

14) Lava Island Props to donate

Our church is doing the Lava Lava Island VBS (tropical island theme).  Our
VBS started yesterday, and will continue for four more Sundays.  It will
end on August 8, 2004.  I hand made a lot of the decorations that we are
using such as suns and monkeys out of fun foam.  To be exact, I have 12
large suns, 12 small suns, 12 large pink flamingos,12 monkeys (four of
which are door hangers) and six wooden chimes.  We were pretty sparce on
decorations, so I will be making some more things over the next week, so 
more things will be available.  We also have parrots, and palm trees to
hang on the wall that were store bought.  All the things that we have can
be put on a wall with tape, or if you want, you can string them up as
well.  When we are finished, as in past years, we will throw the stuff
out.  I really don't want the stuff that I  made to be thrown out, because
it took me a lot of time.  Last year, I gave each kid a goodie bag with
the things that I  made, but I know they probably ended up on the floor of
their bedroom and eventually in the garbage.  I would much rather give
these to a church that could use them.  Is there anyone out there who
could use these tropical items for their VBS?  I will be happy to put it
all in a box and mail it to you, if you would just reimburse me for the
postage.  My e-mail address is dzimmerman@mkmnlaw.com.  I'm not trying to
brag, but I got a lot of compliments on my items and people thought they
were professionally done.
They are well worth the cost of postage, if someone needs them.  Please
