1) New Songs-VBS video tapes
You mentioned in your decorating walls vs bulletin board announcement
that you buy the tapes/CD's and songbooks from different VBS. I am
looking for lifeway's mission and worship rally video tapes from the
last three years. (southern baptist-VBS, Truth Trackers, Ocean Odyssey
and Mt. Extreme) . I have contacted lifeway and they do not keep the
past years tapes. If anyone could help me locate them, I will be glad
to purchase them. You can email me at syeager@kumc.edu
Sincerely,
Stephanie

2) How to motivate kids to sing?
I lead Kid's Church for ages 7-9 twice a month. I usually have a group of
15 - 19 kids. I have difficulty getting the kids to sing praise and
worship songs at the beginning of our service. Any creative suggestions on
getting the kids interested in singing to the Lord would be greatly
appreciated. I have some that want to sing, but because the majority of
the group doesn't want to, they won't.
YSIC, Monica - Alabama
--from SSTN: first, make sure it's 'cool', upbeat music. Also, try having
older youths come in and lead with guitars and drums. Or give the kids
percussion instruments and video tape them to make their own music video.
;o)) Ask them how they would produce a music video..then use some of their
ideas. ysic, sarah keith <><

3) 3-day Bible School
> Our church is planning a 3 day Bible School and our directorjust left,
> which leaves me in charge. Having never done this I would like some
We do it all the time. And we make up our own themes. Go for it! You'll
never get it off the ground if you don't try. Last year we centered our
VBS around Brazil because we had a member who went to Brazil as a
missionary. We had her do a 15-minute presentation about Brazil each night
about Brazil's customs, people, culture, and religion. She even taught us
a few words of Portuguese and taught us a dance. It was great fun. Pole
your congregation there may be someone there who knows or knows how to be
a
clown. There are many ideas you can come up with for your theme. You
have
the hardest part accomplished: The theme. I say work with it. There are
many crafts on the internet to help you do animals, clowns, seals, balls,
etc. You may even want to decorate like a big tent and have the teachers
come as a circus person. The possibilities are endless if you just sit
down and think about. That's what we did. It turned out great!

4) Morning Prayers
This is a morning prayer poem for your youth to use, and anyone else to
use
as they see fit. I'm the author so there are no copyright laws. Feel
free
to modify it. I hope you can use it to impact your youth.
YSIC, Monica - Alabama
As I rise and shine, I praise you Lord.
I lift my voice in one accord.
To give you thanks for all you do.
To ask your guidance this day through.
Bless me Lord and make me strong.
Use me Father all day long.
Keep me from evil and humble my pride,
I can flee temptation with you by my side.
Let me see what you want to do in me
and through me this day,
Don't let me miss it, take me your way. Amen.

5) Ideas on David and Goliath
> Blow up and trace around a large picture of Gollith. Make sure the
> picture has a helmet with the forehead showing. Wad up masking tape to
> represent a rock, line the kids up, and play throwing a rock at Gollith.
I have seen this same thing done, but a piece of Velcro was placed on the
forehead and velour balls were thrown at it as the rocks. You could try
shooting them out a sling shot or throwing them depending on the age. If
you use an overhead projector to project the image to trace, you can make
it as tall as the ceiling. Trace this on a bed sheet and paint it. The
sheet can be folded away for storage and can be washed if the correct type
of paint is used. I have seen one used for many years this way.
Hope this helps. PK

6) How to Use Your Bible Curriculum?
Hello- Does anyone have a "learning to use the bible" curriculum they use
and like? I would like to have our third graders use it this year - they
receive their bibles at the end of 2nd grade. I heard there is a good
Methodist curriculum.
Thanks.

7) Morning prayer
Here is a simple one I wrote.
Good morning, Lord
I love You!
Good morning, Lord
Guide me in all I do.
Thank you, Lord
for a good night's rest
Thank you, Lord
for helping me do my best!

W.W.J.S.? Gospel Catchers
There's something much worse than cooties...it's called sin! Now kids can
make Gospel Catchers rather than Cootie Catchers! A fun and innovative way
for kids to learn to share their faith with their friends! Includes 4
Gospel Catcher patterns to make: the Colors of Christ (Gospel Colors), the
Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the Promises of God. Follow this

8) Morning Prayer
I taught my pre-k & kindergarten this little prayer.
We do this at the beginning of each Sunday School class.
We all stand in a circle and hold hands and say ....
"Good Morning, Good Morning, how are you today?
Good Morning, Good Morning I'm glad we can say,
That we are just fine and so happy to be,
Together in God's House, my good friends and me."
There is a tune I use but you could probably just make it in a
"sing-song" manner.
And then, the kids turn to each other and shake hands and say
good morning. At first the kids are a little shy about shaking hands
but within a few weeks, they're really into it.
Peace,

9) Discipline Problems

Hello, This has worked for me for my Wed. Eve. class grades 4-6. The child
and I discussed before class that I noticed how all the other kids seemed
to really look up to him and copy what he did. I told him I really needed
his help, because if he talked out of turn (or whatever the problem was)
then the other kids did too and we didn't get our lesson in. I
complemented his on his leadership abilities and also recruited him for a
small job that needed done during the lesson. Giving him the responsibilty
to help maintain order in the classroom helped a lot. Each time he started
to forget his responsibilty, I told him "don't forget" and that was all he
needed to calm himself down. It took about three weeks of this, but the
behavior improved so much. I hope that this is helpful!

12) Trouble children
RESPONDING TO THE TROUBLE CHILDREN. IN MY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS I HAVE 3
ADDH KIDS. ADDH IS ATTENTION DEFECIT DISORDER HYPERACTIVITY. THESE
CHILDREN ARE SPECIAL AND ARE IN MEDICATION BUT SOMETHIMES THE MEDS DO NOT
WORK THEY HAVE BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS AND THE REST OF THE CHILDREN DO NOT WANT
THEM IN CLASS BECAUSE THEY DO DISRUPT CLASS. I HAVE A REWARD POINT CARD
SYSTEM FOR EACH OF THE STUDENTS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE WORKING.I TRY NOT TO
MAKE THEM FEEL DIFFERENT, NOT WANTED. THE POINT CARD IS 25 POINTS A MONTH
PER-SUNDAY. THE REWARD COULD BE A TOY, A BIBLE OR MCDONALDS OR IF THEY
WANT THEY COULD SAVE THEIR POINTS FOR BIGGER PRIZES. BUT THE POINTS ARE
ALSO TAKEN AWAY FOR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR. SO THE CHOICE IS THERES. TRY THIS
SYSTME AND LET ME KNOW HOW IT WORKS FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS MS.
