TALK ABOUT IT

First watch our short Psalm 27 video for Kids!

Read Psalm 27:1: “The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?”

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? Maybe at night when the lights go out, or when you hear a strange sound? King David, who wrote Psalm 27, knew what it felt like to be scared. He had enemies who wanted to hurt him! But even then, he remembered something very important: God was his light.

A light pushes away darkness. When you turn on a lamp, the dark disappears. That’s what God does for us — He pushes away fear when we trust Him.

David also called God his salvation — that means rescuer. He knew God would save him and keep him safe, even when scary things were happening around him.

Sometimes we might feel alone or worried. Maybe you have to do something difficult at home or school, or feel left out by family or friends. But Psalm 27 reminds us: God is always with us. He wants us to come close to Him, just like David did. He wants us to talk to Him, trust Him, and wait for Him to help us.

When we wait for God, it means we don’t give up or run away. We stay brave and patient, knowing He’s working, even when we can’t see it yet.

Try This
When you feel afraid or worried, say out loud: “The Lord is my light (it’s like turning on a light in the darkness), and He is my salvation (He rescues me because He loves me).

Discussion
1. What is something that makes you feel afraid sometimes?
2. How does God help you when you feel scared?
3. David wanted to be close to God every day. What can you do every day to stay close to God?
4. Is it hard or easy for you to wait for God to help you? Why?
5. What is one thing you can pray about today that needs God’s help?

Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for being our light when we feel afraid. Thank You for being our rescuer and for staying close to us. Please help us trust You and wait for You, even when it’s hard. Help us remember that You push away the darkness with Your love. We love You and we know You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Memory Verse Idea
Write Psalm 27:1 on a sticky note and put it on your fridge or bathroom mirror and say it everyday to memorize it: “The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1.
