1) Halloween, what to teach?

Halloween and its celebrations - what to teach the kids from a biblical aspect? Could you please help?

2) Thankfulness: Attitudes

Ideas continued from SSTN #41- Nov. 12, 2009

Option # 5: Ballad of Little Joe (Veggie Tale Movie) - Age 2-6 yrs
Little Joe in the movie consistently ran into problems of not his own making. Instead of complaining and worrying about what to do, he relied on God to take care of him. Watch the movie together with the kids and then talk about how they can be like
Little Joe.

Option # 6: Scriptures on complaining
As each child arrives, give them one of the verses below about grumbling. Have them look it up in their Bibles, read it several times, and be prepared to share with the class what the verse means. Then have them look up the scriptures on being thankful.
Exodus 15:24, Numbers 14:20, John 6:43, 1 Corinthians 10:10, Philippians 2:14, James 5:9, 1 Peter 4:9

Thankfulness Scriptures
1 Thessalonians 5:18, Colossians 2:6-7, Philippians 4:6, Psalms 100:4, Psalms 95:2, Colossians 3:15

Option # 7: Five-Minute Bible Games and Fun
Borenstein, Shery (1992). Shining Star Publications, ISBN 0-86653-698-1
Several reproducible pages on Thanksgiving can be found in this book.
Thanks Giving Message
Thankful Hearts
My Thankfulness Poster -- Teacher Note from C. Gordon: You may wish to frame or laminate the completed posters as keep sake for the kids. If you do not have the ability to laminate the posters, clear contact paper can be used instead.
I’m Thankful A Thank-You Puzzle

Option # 8: A changing heart
Have your children draw this pattern onto black or gray construction paper and again on red or white construction paper. Glue the two heart patterns together, back to back and let dry. Then fold the two outer edges of the black heart side toward the center of the red, so that it makes a completely black heart on both sides. Discuss with them this is how our heart becomes when we grumble against God. But when we repent and speak with gratefulness out heart becomes cleansed again and then turn the heart the opposite way to make both sides of the heart appear red. http://www.familyblueprint.org/blueprint_33.htm

6) Thanksgiving Skit

7) Important Bible Memory Verses

> if you had to choose ten of the "best or important" verses for children to memorize (k-5th grade), what would they be?
> I'd start with John 3:16-17.

In Response, I would have to say Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

8)
Important Bible Memory Verses

> if you had to choose ten of the "best or important" verses for children to memorize (k-5th grade), what would they be?
> I'd start with John 3:16-17.

I would choose Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."
