1) We're Growing...Come Join Us!

SSTN has recently jumped into a new mail-server category. We now have over 30,000 people receiving the newsletter! This is certainly a blessing, but it also presents us with an increase in monthly delivery cost. I tell you this for two reasons:
     1) Pray that God will provide for this ministry according to his will, and
     2) If you haven't already, join us by becoming a Ministry Support Partner.
Please visit the following link to learn how you can help:

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support over the years!

2)
Important Bible Memory Verses?

Of course ALL Bible verses are important and beloved, but if you had to choose ten of the "best or important" verses for children  to memorize (k-5th grade), what would they be?
I'd start with John 3:16-17.

What verses would you choose?

3) Running the Race

Hi!
I did this topic with my children's group a couple of weeks ago. I used the Derek Redmond (google it!) clip on youtube, which shows his 1992 Olympic race where he pulls a hamstring muscle (like us in our daily struggles). He continues after a while, the crowd stands to cheer him on (like the great cloud of witnesses) then, his Dad jumps over the barrier, fights off the officials! and puts this arm round him and helps him the rest of the way! I then explained to the children how God is like this Dad, he doesn't stand far off, he jumped over the barrier of heaven, and runs the race with us. Careful, its a tear jerker!!!

4) Ten Commands Skit?

Hello, My name is Kathy, and I am a CCD teacher for our local parish - I teach fourth graders. My goal this year, is to "freshen up" some of our bible lessons, and found some really neat information on puppet ministry. I am intrigued by the idea of having the kids participate in this activity to help "solidify" the lesson better. The entire academic curriculum for the fourth grade is based upon the Ten Commandments. I have searched the internet and several different websites for a "puppet play or script" on the Ten Commandments that we may be able to use. However, I have not found anything. Most of the scripts that are written are lessons written for New Testament teachings - I am at a loss, do you know where I can find a play script that can be used in teaching the lessons about the Ten Commandments? I can write my own, but I feel that this may be re-inventing the wheel...do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kathy

--from SSTN: Hi Kathy, yes, we have a Ten Commandments skit entitled, "God Rules", based on Exodus ch. 1-20. You can find it listed in our Anytime Christian Skits section at: http://www.sundayschoolnetwork.com/skits.html

5) Leaning on Jesus

I've withstood a lot of life's storms, but by God's grace I'm still standing. Nonetheless, I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I ask the Lord to prop me up on my leaning side*.

I figure others get to leaning at times too.
Sometimes we,
lean towards anger,
lean towards bitterness,
lean towards hatred,
lean towards self-pity,
lean towards a lot of things that we shouldn't.

So we need to pray, Lord, prop us up on our leaning side, so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the Lord.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

6) Thankfulness:  Attitudes

Option # 1: The Amazing Carnival of Complaining (video) -- Age 3 - 8 yrs
Help the students understand about the problems with complaining by watching the 3-2-1 Penguin video called “The Amazing Carnival of Complaining”. Then discuss with the students what they watched and why it is important to not complain, but to be thankful..

Option # 2: Complaining Connie (Story)
The Bible tells us to do all things without grumbling (Philippians 2:14). Help your students understand the importance of not grumbling by reading the story entitled “Complaining Connie.” (Cross, Luther. (1966).
Story Sermons for Children, Baker Book House , Grand Rapids, MI, pg 57-58, ISBN 0-8010-2328-9)

Option # 3: Let’s Talk about Complaining (younger students - Complaining) By: Joy Berry
Read the book “Let’s Talk about Complaining” by Joy Berry to the students. Take time to show the students the pictures in the book and to discuss what is going on. (Book is published by Grolier Enterprises Corporation)

Option # 4: A Balloon for Every Blessing (story & Activity)
Need: Helium filled balloons (one or more per student)
It is easy to complain about things we don’t have, but much harder to be thankful for what we do. Jennifer learns to count the many blessings she does have when her mother says she will buy her a balloon for every blessing she can name. Read or tell the story to the students (story included in this lesson plan).
Teacher Note from C. Gordon -- After the story is completed, have the students list blessings that God has given them. Make sure every child has at least one balloon. Story from: Beers, V. Gilbert. (1989).
Precious Moments; Through-the-Year Stories
, Baker Book House, Grand Rapids, MI, pg 168-172, ISBN 0-8010-0973-1

7) Dimwit Church?

I am looking for the cartoon figures that went with Dim Wit Church. I have the story which is about church behavior. I bought the material over 35 years ago so it goes way back in time. It would be great if you could reprint it again. It can also be used for a skit with the kids acting out the story. One more request. Does anyone know if the Scene-O-Felt Ministries are still available? Hopefully, someone can help me. My email address is myrlenemonday@yahoo.com.
